I have it on my heart to tell you that I appreciate you still reading this blog even when it's heavy in baby pictures. There are two schools of thought on whether or not it is appropriate for me to bombard you with baby related photos. Truthfully, I agree with both sides. So when deciding on what to do with this little blog in particular, I opted to post what I enjoyed seeing when I was shooting up my stomach every morning...and night. What was that? Hope. Success. And some good ol' bygollywedidit decorating.
Now for some serious stuff. I am now 34 weeks and have been diagnosed with a borderline case of gestational diabetes. I failed my one hour glucose test and failed one out of four blood draws at my three hour test.
What does that mean? Well, it means I need to watch the sugar and carbs, but I don't have to stick myself 3x per day. This is typically not a problem for me (avoiding sugar), but I must admit I do have a tendency to over-indulge in a cold glass of Lots of Pulp. Yum.
Two weeks ago, my doctor suggested we start monitoring the baby's size because of this recent diagnosis. She told us he may need to come early since she suspected from fundal measurements that he was big. Well.
She asked me to schedule an ultrasound to establish a baseline for his size. She stressed to me that he would not be too large at 33 weeks, we just need to know were we started.
Uh huh.
So Michael met me at the clinic this week (33 weeks).
The baby's size was determined by four measurements:
1. Head circumference
2. Belly circumference
3. Bone length from shoulder to elbow
4. Bone length from hip to knee
On three of these measurements he measured 3 weeks ahead (36 weeks) and on one of these measurements he measured 4 weeks ahead (37 weeks).
Oh boy.
Finally, she told us that she suspects he weighs 6 pounds and is much bigger than average.
Good job, Mom...way to watch the sugar and carbs.
He's really supposed to stay inside me for six more weeks and he already weighs 6 pounds?
Yeah, right.
So, girls, I have not talked to my doctor, but my suspicions tell me that we're having a baby early, really early. My doctor is very anti c-section, and she has told me on a couple of occasions that she feels there is a greater risk of c-section with me carrying a 10+ pound baby to 40 weeks.
My next appointment with her is in 9 days, so I'll let you know what she says.
Meanwhile, I am really trying to watch the sugar.
Promise.
We had a foot of snow at our house today.
Which means the husband got to spend the day with me.
Tomorrow too.
Sweet.
Here is the sight outside our front door...
We received this mobile from North America Bear Co. today.
It's called the Flatso mobile and I. Love. It.
Baby Michael's friends were finally evicted from the crib.
They now live in a wicker basket on the closet floor awaiting the day of their return.
We also received our Baby Bjorn. WORD TO THE WISE. Do NOT shop at your local B "R" Us for this kind of stuff. I found this one on Amazon for over $40 cheaper.
Same thing here. These Sophie's are about $23-$28 everywhere and I got this one for $16 on Amazon.
Did I mention all of this stuff is free shipping as well? Oh yeah, no tax either.
And one more word about deals, I got a great price on this cute monogrammed hospital/beach/church/spend the night bag at The Pink Giraffe online.
Also, I got my diaper bag HALF PRICE on zulily.com.
Check out zulily. Let me know if you need an invitation and I'll send you one.
My little sister told me about it and I have scored some major deals on there there...usually 70% off.
Okay, back to the baby. He is packed for the hospital. LIKE I have any idea what I'm doing.
Need to learn long division? Got it covered.
Need to memorize some multiplication facts? I'm your girl.
Want to learn how to write in cursive? Pull up a chair.
Curious about constellations? Let's review.
But if you are under the age of eight...Sorry, we're in this together.
Do I even need a burp cloth at the hospital? I am so clueless.
Taking one just in case.
Poor boy.
And we got his baby book.
And it is lovely.
Girls, I have not been riding on the mushy train lately, but I think I'll hop on for a minute and remind you how grateful I am for each one of you. I share things with you that I don't even share with my top 3 best friends. You can relate, can't you? For one year, YOU have been my best friends.
Love and a big hug,
AE
PS - I got a FB account last week.
It
has
been...
awesome : )

FB is so much fun! Good luck with your big baby boy! I hope he doesn't come too early. That snow was crazy wasn't it? I'm glad you and DH stayed in.
Baby Michael is growing! I've had GD from early on and have managed it pretty well. Now that I am almost 34 wks, it's kind of getting worst, but not too bad. I finally had to go on insulin at breakfast and dinner.
We went in yesterday to measure baby and he weighs 4 lbs 12 ounces. If baby doesn't come on his own before 38 wks, then my dr will induce me.
Thanks for sharing the good deals on amazon. I'm still trying to figure out what I need to pack for the hospital!
Big boy! So do you think you'll be induced early? We had the opposite problem. A tiny baby. But I will tell you we had that whole measurement ultrasound done (every week just about) and they predicted she would be over seven pounds. She was under six. Soooooo....take that for what it's worth! Good luck watching the sugar and carbs! You can do it. And last wisdom I will pass on...I OVER packed for the hospital. Everything you will need for the baby, the hospital has. It won't be as cute as what you have but it will be stuff you won't have to wash and keep up with. That's a big bonus.
And Facebook. I have to join. I'm just dreading it. Do I really want to reconnect with people from high school? Um, not even a little.
Wow, what an update!!
My baby weighed 10 lb 3 oz, so I totally hear you girl!! I tried for 12 hours and then realized he just wasnt coming so I opted for a c-section (thank goodness! lol)
I had a great experience, so just remember whatever it takes to get him here safest is the best decision!!
I know you will do great!!
I heart fb..how have you not had one until now?!?! ;)
Aww, I just love reading these updates from you. I was told I'd have a big baby and we did an induction a week early, but then lo and behold he came out only 7 lbs. 7 oz. I remember him being around 6 lbs. around the same point you're at too! So you just really never know...The baby book and other nursery decor you've chosen is so beautiful - I love your style. And how fun to have a snow day with the hubby! Yes, isn't FB the best?:) Take care.
Wow Momma that is one big boy...I know when you have GD babies tend to be on the bigger side my girlfriend gave birth to a 10 1/2lb boy vaginally and it was her first...Yikes
Love all your latest goodies and I too have been using Amazon for tons of baby things and used books on pregnancy/breastfeeding/newborn related topics.
I also just got a FB this last week...My friend have been wanting me to get one forever and I finally caved in...I do like it but I will say it has taken away from my blogging:)
Always love your updates
what an update indeed! Sounds like you totally have things under control and organized! good for you! Your recent purchases/additions to M's room are cute! Is his bag searsucker?! I'm a huge fan (seriously- the groomsman in our wedding wore blue/white searsucker suits!)
FB is totally addicting but fun! Enjoy!
Oh, my twins love their sophie the giraffe!
