Baby Boy H's nursery is entering the final planning phase. Saturday we are officially moving the guest room furniture out and giving it to M's youngest son who is 11. It'll be the beginning of a very fun project.
My inspiration for baby's nursery is this photo from The Nester.
Our nursery will be similar colors to this room - semigloss white on the bottom and a yellowish tan on top.
This link above will take you to many others who were inspired to try a board and batten wall in their homes.
Do you remember the movie The Holiday? Cameron Diaz had a super fly California sprawl and Kate Winslet had a cozy stone cottage? As much as I want to be the cool, modern California type, I'm the cramped cozy cottage type. It's so comforting.
There is one thing I cannot change about the baby's bathroom and that is its aqua and cream floors. Rather than fight it, I had to go with it. (You'll notice that in the current wall color below.) So, I was beckoned to this buffalo check by Calico Corners in the Seabreeze Color. I think it will be so cute on the tan and white wood wall just like the office above.
The coordinating fabric for Buffalo Check is called Checkmate. Isn't that the cutest name?
It's in the photo below.
The baby's bumper and crib skirt will be in Checkmate. This could be overkill if the bed and crib weren't on opposite sides of the room. In fact, you can't even see the crib when you walk in the room.
My mother-in-law is a great seamstress and she is making the super long curtain panels with blackout liner. They have to be 110" to cover all of the window. She is also making the crib skirt. However, this morning I decided to pay someone back home to make the bumper.
The third fabric you see is a stripe that is M's favorite. That fabric will end up on a chair that I am searching for at local consignment shops. I just plan on having a really cheap chair recovered. What I like about this fabric is that it looks like a first grader as well as a baby. It would be nice to be able to use his things for more than his baby years.
These are accent fabrics for the glider chair and anyplace else we see fit. The top fabric is silk and the bottom is linen. He will never care about this stuff, but I will appreciate it - and I plan on spending a lot of time in there for the first year.
Do you have a Home Goods in your area? I never did until I moved to KS. I could hear the brush of angels' wings the first time those automatic doors opened to reveal to me a neverending land of mirrors, lamps, pillows, china, bedding and baskets. I found the super cute storage cabinet at our local store and knew it would look so cute with the baby's things.
And finally the glider...
My sister and IRL friends advised me to invest in a really comfy glider. My sister (you met on the video this week) did not do that and she always regretted it. So I decided to invest our bucks in a glider rather than a crib, fancy rug, or, chandelier. We're getting a white crib from Wally World to balance out the $ we are investing in this glider and ottoman. I'm happy about that. By the way, we're getting it from www.costco.com at a very discounted price. I have to remind my selfish, human self that this baby is not an only child. He has 3 siblings who are very, very close to college. We don't want to give Daddy a heart attack anytime soon.
M and I are saying the baby's name a lot this weekend to make sure we feel comfortable with it before we announce it to the world. It is the ONLY boy's name I have ever truly wanted and I am so thankful Daddy got on board with me without any coercion whatsoever.
As for baby updates, here are the latest goings on:
19w3d Update
Weight: Still +2 pounds, holding steady for now. A note about that...I gained exactly ten pounds with each IVF. This means I started my pregnancy with 20 pounds freshly attached to my arse. This Mama has no room for error. None. I know that the weight will come eventually, but I am not giving in to temptation on a daily basis. Weekly maybe, but not daily : )
Exercise: The treadmill has dust on it, period.
Sleep: This is not pregnancy related, but I wake up every morning about 3AM. M reads these posts and can verify my honesty. In fact, I woke up this morning at 1:11 AM and I'm writing this to you now at 3:22 AM. I say this is not pregnancy related because I go through periods about once a year where I cannot sleep. My Dad does the exact same thing. Spooky.
Cravings: Orange juice, pickles, Son.ic diet cherry limeades, honey crisp apples
M's kids: He has a daughter (16 when baby is born), a middle son (13), and a younger son (12 when baby is born). Tonight his daughter (she's 6'1") helped me make homemade spaghetti sauce. We sat down around 7PM after the youngest's football practice was over and had spaghetti, salad and rolls. They are thrilled about the baby. It's hard to imagine one year from now that our one available spot at the 6 person table will have a little body in it.
Baby shower: Our shower will be in January in MS. Family and friends are giving it for us and we are so appreciative. It is the weekend of our two year anniversary. Little did we know we'd do 2 IVF's in our first 2 years of marriage. Who in their right mind would sign up for that? I plan on inviting many of my former 3rd grade students. 3rd graders are my people. There's just no one more cool to be around than an 8 year old. They are the only children I ever planned on having, so it will be all the sweeter to have them attending.
Thank you for reading about our life lately. You are one of the most integral parts of this journey.
I'd never want to do this without all of you.
A.E.

Good LORD you stay busy girl! How have you gotten so much done already?
The nursery inspiration photo is awesome- cozy and comforting, sophisticated and calming. :)
The fabrics you have chosen are beautiful and I love the variety and can picture them in 'pops' around the room! you are SO LUCKY to be able to have someone make all your nursery items. That will always be special.
I, too, love a cottagey look and am trying to stay in that 'theme' as well. Our home was built in 1924 and has the original floors, window and door casings, mouldings, etc. There is even a fireplace in the nursery (not a working one, an old coal-burning one).
Can't wait to see what you do next with the nursery and I'm glad you are feeling good and getting lots accomplished! :)
I love what you are doing with the nursery...You seem like a real interior decorator...I would love to see the rest of your house...I bet its beautiful:)
I have been to a home goods once in Chicago Burbs and I wish I had one close by it was amazing....so much great stuff at reasonable price!!!!
I cant wait to hear you name....So exciting...Take care and have a great week:)
